Dilim (right), Ümit (left), Sami and Nils got the streets on lock. These dudes have been holding it down in the German capital for years and personify Berlin streetball to the fullest. Last weekend, they won the Sprite 3on3 city championship O.G.-style for the Nation of Hoop. Great job, fellas!

“Brighton Summer Madness”, UK’s most legendary streetball tournament, went down last weekend – in honor of a local ballplayer who recently passed away. Hundreds of players and spectators were on hand to pay tribute. And to witness the fitness of basketball made in UK. In the sun. On the boardwalk. 4on4. Play hard! Brighton Summer Madness 2011

The Brighton Summer Madness tournament is looking to bring the heat to Brighton’s famous beach court this weekend, and has been dedicated to the memory of a player who used the beachfront court regularly. Shaun Pinkney, 32, a local basketball player from Hove, died earlier this year.

“We are proud to dedicate this tournament to the life of Shaun Pinkney,” said England Basketball’s Miguel Tello, one of the organisers of the event.

Team Urspring tours China

Team Urspring, the reigning NBBL (German Youth League) champions, just came back from a two-week tour through China, participating in the 4-Continent-Tournament. During the intense stretch of 9 games in 11 days the German squad faced off against teams including Australia, USA and host nation China. Going up against college graduates who play professionally in China, the young Urspring team held its own, beating the US boys 73-71 in Pingguo. What a memorable trip!

K1X SHORTYS WIN PIGALLE TOURNAMENT

Last weekend marked the next stop of the infamous PXA basketball tournament: the Pigalle court in Paris (where it all started 12 months ago). Repainted with an amazing piece of art by Yue Wu, the unique court welcomed some new teams such as ROUCREATION, MAIN DE FER & GANTS DE VELOURS, LE CLOSET as well as a comeback by the regular PXA teams BKRW, SOTO/MADE (Berlin), RBF(Amsterdam), CANDY, COLETTE… After Team K1X had won the men’s title a couple of weeks ago in Amsterdam it was now time to shine for K1X Shorty’s. Parisian online lifestyle magazine LE CLOSET had teamed up with K1X aiming for the first title in K1X Shorty history. To celebrate the magazine’s first invitation to Pigalles’ finest, the K1X girls took the tournament by storm and ended up as undefeated champions, with a striking win in the finales versus the Candy girls from Germany. The young team was composed of point guard Diana who plays for Mali national team (remember the K1X catalogue “Marks the Spot” back in 2007), forwards Deborah and Caitlin (French third league) and power forward Sandra, who plays in the NCAA (Kansas University). In the men’s category, local heroes Pigalle took the title in a very physical final against MAIN DE FER. In addition to an exciting basketball tournament PXA once again brought together “la famille”, to celebrate basketball and party with the coolest people in the industry. A memorable dance battle and an off da hook afterparty rounded up a perfect weekend in the City of Love. Next stop: Berlin, September 24th.

K1X wins PXA!

But seriously, last weekend was way more than that. Suki, Chris and Joey (Bread & Butter) invited a selected crowd of fashionistas (or simply: cool cats) to hoop it up family-style in Amsterdam. The 3rd edition of the PXA basketball invitational (following Paris and Berlin) had all the makings of a classic. Even the Gods gave their blessing and treated the setting to the first sunny weekend of the year. Teams from all over Europe, including Black Rainbow & Pigalle (Paris), Acht (Amsterdam), BBB, Soto & Candy (Berlin), Frankfurt and a special guest from NYC, came to the city of sin and ended up having the best of times. At the end of the day, yours truly took home the men’s title and many unforgettable moments. Peep the images below to get a taste of the vibe…
Major props go out to Suki, Joey and Chris for making it happen. And for making sure that all teams slept under the same roof in a legendary downtown villa, which made the whole event reminiscent of a school trip. All players present have played plenty of basketball tournaments in their lifetime – and still, this PXA edition stands out supreme.
This goes out to Big Will Ricky Ross, Jay, Bianca, Hadnet, Emily, Max, Robson, Indra, Kwon, DJ Khaled, Soldier Boy Tellem, Malibu, those Frankfurters, 8, Rutha, Philly, Danish Dick, the Pigalle Massive, Salima, Dre, BBB, Nico Zeh, Kool Bob Love, Aaron and the whole PXA crew.

If you’re looking at those shoes and wondering “where the hell did they get those?”, let us take you way back: Bobbito Garcia designed those joints for K1X several years ago, the Chieglider Bounce Edition. We still had some fresh pairs and decided to break them out for the occasion. Kool Bob Love definitely appreciated the gesture.

Big Chris, was one of the tournaments organizers brought a bunch of spray cans to customize the court prior to tip-off. He is also one helluva bike rider (catch him somewhere between Amsterdam and Rome this June!) who used to ball professionally in Italy and looks like he could be in Green Day. Most importantly, he is a real cool dude.

Dre was one of the first dudes we met. He was an early indicator that we were in for a special day.

Other than hoops, the PXA was mainly about wildin out, which made for a pretty dope scenario.

Big Chris, Joey (another guy who will go to heaven for making PXA happen) and Bobbito Garcia himself, who hosted the semis and finals like only he can. They all got mad love for their peoples.

Papa Neil & Duki know what a proper game-face looks like – look and learn.

These young cats dj’ed the shit out of the sound system. Nice work, fellas, you da future! We’re guessing we’ll see you in a underground-goes-hit-movie before you turn 22…

Allez les Bleus! Team Pigalle brought a truckload of fans who had more energy than your average Duracel rabbit.

You got to leave your mark if you want to be a champion. Or something like that …

Our friends from Candy (Berlin) took home the women’s title in a hard fought battle vs. the locals from Amsterdam. Good thing they had Hacking Hadet and the Amazing Emily (MVP, MVP, MVP…) on the squad, who made sure their general manager DJ San Gabriel can add another title to his impressive trophy cabinet.

The men’s final was featured Team K1X and the PXA Originators from Pigalle (Paris). Papa Neal had a feeling this “one-love shot” would not be all too realistic after the game, so he insisted to have this picture taken before. Good thinkin, vet …

The toughest matchup of the tournament: Tom vs. Joe

PXA tournament MVP honors definitely go to this dude, Joe Tesfaldet, who was aptly nicknamed “Oh-No” by shot caller Bobbito Garcia. Honorable mention goes to Tom (Pigalle), Duki (Team K1X), Malibu Fu (Soto, Berlin) and the tattoo’ed guy from Team Acht we nicknamed “Eminem”, who had enough energy to keep on dunking even after his team was forced out of the competition by Pigalle in the semis.

The men’s final was a hard fought low scoring battle that would have put the Detroit Bad Boys to shame. But you gotta do what you gotta do …

Give it up for the champs! Team K1X celebrates the tournament victory, while the Pigalle crew turns away in disgust: “Putain!” Team K1X consisted of Duki Cvetkovic, Joe Tesfaldet, Tom Gabrea & the veteran Papa Niels Jaeger.

The PXA will not be forgotten by anyone who was lucky enough to witness the event. Sounds romantic, mainly because it kind of is.

EXPRESS YOUR STYLE AND DANCE

A couple of days ago the Express Your Style Battle took place for the fifth time and Munich City was the venue. This battle is a unique event in Southern Germany, as it requires a high artistic level in urban dance, authenticity and quality. Locking, Hip Hop, Popping, Krumping and B-Boying – do what you gotta do to take it home. Internationally acknowledged judges from the urban dance scene decided on the winner(s) of each category …

Juste Debous (one of the biggest dance-events in Paris) winners Niki & Martha from Stockholm (Sweden) made it to the the semi-finals. Niki is wearing our K1X Shorty Wmns Shorty At Large Tag Hoody.

This year’s winners were UK and AL of Bad Newz Crew from Aachen (must successful crew in Germany).

UK and AL are wearing our K1X 5th Element (Footlocker Exclusive Tee).

Bobbito Garcia aka Kool Bob Love took care of the after show party tunes. Crazy: a party, where 95% of the crowd CAN actually dance! Made us think of the classic movie “Fame” …

Team K1X wins Munich streetball championship!

It was a last second thing. But the competition at last weekend’s hometown “Express Your Style” 3on3 streetball championship was too good to pass up. Team K1X was the last of 26 teams to enter the competition – and ended up being the last team to leave.

Team K1X: Johannes, Aaron, Roberto & Papa Neil

The hastily assembled office squad featured K1X’s own Italian stallion Roberto Aufiero in the middle (probably the nastiest elbows in the business), 19 year old phenom Johannes Kriegereit, Aaron Paisley (you gotta have major hops to regularly get your dunk off in a 3on3 contest – unless you are filming Hollywood basketball movie), and K1X veteran Niels Jäger, who came off the bench for some old-school post moves and a lucky three in the semis. The final was a close encounter vs. several big body pros from local second division team FC Bayern. The good guys chased a three point deficit for most of the game but came up big in the crunch, winning the game by one point with the first lead of the game. It was ugly, but who cares? Take it from the champs: a last second home win tastes extra sweet!

The tournament’s “grand prize” was a couple of cans of our very own K1X Energy Drink, plus a bottle of Absolut Vodka. Whatever, it was all about the bragging rights anyway …

The after-party featured DJ Bobitto Garcia and the most impressive assembly of dancers since one of those regular lunch breaks at “Fame”. Check back later this week for more pics …
